What Is ERP?
A structured way to change the fear-and-relief cycle.
OCD and anxiety can create a repeating pattern: a thought, feeling, image, or situation triggers distress, and a compulsion or avoidance behavior provides short-term relief.
Exposure and Response Prevention helps clients gradually face feared triggers while choosing not to complete the usual compulsion, ritual, or avoidance response.
Over time, this can help reduce the power those patterns hold over daily life.

Who ERP May Help
Support for OCD and fear-based patterns that interfere with life.
01
Obsessions & Intrusive Thoughts
Recurring unwanted thoughts, images, urges, or doubts that create distress or uncertainty.
02
Compulsions & Rituals
Checking, washing, repeating, counting, reassurance-seeking, mental rituals, or other behaviors used to reduce anxiety.
03
Avoidance & Fear
Avoiding situations, objects, people, decisions, or experiences because they feel unsafe or overwhelming.
How ERP Works
Gradual practice guided by a trained clinician.
ERP is collaborative and carefully planned. Clients are not forced into their most difficult fears. Treatment usually begins with manageable steps and builds gradually as confidence grows.
Identify The Cycle
Recognize triggers, obsessions, compulsions, avoidance, and reassurance patterns.
Build A Hierarchy
Organize feared situations from more manageable to more challenging.
Practice Exposure
Approach selected triggers in a planned, supported, and gradual way.
Prevent The Response
Practice resisting rituals or avoidance long enough to learn a new response.
What Clients Learn
Skills that support greater freedom and flexibility.

ERP At Innerspace
Specialized treatment within a broader plan of care.
ERP may be used within Innerspace’s OCD and Anxiety Track as part of a personalized IOP or PHP treatment plan.
Depending on clinical need, treatment may also include individual therapy, group therapy, family sessions, psychiatric care, medication management, and skills from CBT, ACT, or DBT.
ERP is challenging by design, but it should also be collaborative, gradual, and grounded in clear treatment goals.

From Our Clinical Team
ERP empowers people to face fears gradually while breaking the cycle of avoidance and compulsions. It's the gold standard for treating OCD because it creates lasting confidence through experience.
