Who Is the Ideal Candidate?

Ideal candidates for the OCD & Anxiety Track are adolescents and adults living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or anxiety-related disorders who are seeking specialized, evidence-based care. This program is especially well-suited for individuals who have tried traditional outpatient therapy or general mental health IOP and PHP services without sufficient progress, or those who need a step-down option after inpatient or residential treatment. With a structured, supportive environment and gold-standard ERP treatment, patients receive the intensity of care necessary to make meaningful, lasting change.

Understanding Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) & Anxiety Concerns

OCD and anxiety disorders encompass a wide range of conditions that can significantly impact daily life, relationships, and overall well-being. These include:

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions) performed to reduce distress.

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Persistent and excessive worry, restlessness, and physical symptoms such as muscle tension or difficulty sleeping.

  • Panic Disorder: Repeated, unexpected panic attacks accompanied by fear of future attacks or avoidance of certain situations.

  • Agoraphobia: Intense fear of being in situations where escape may feel difficult, often leading to avoidance of public spaces or leaving home.

  • Social Anxiety Disorder: Intense fear of social or performance situations, often leading to avoidance and isolation.

  • Emetophobia: A specific phobia involving an intense fear of vomiting, which can significantly restrict eating habits, travel, or social activities.

  • Other Related Concerns: Phobias, health anxiety, perfectionism, and co-occurring depression or stress-related conditions.

These conditions can interfere with school, work, and family responsibilities. For some, symptoms may lead to school refusal, avoidance, phobia, academic struggles, or absenteeism, while others may experience workplace difficulties, performance challenges, or career disruptions. Left untreated, OCD and anxiety can shrink a person’s world—but with the right support, recovery is possible.

Understanding Exposure Response Therapy (ERP)

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold-standard treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders. ERP works by helping individuals gradually face the thoughts, fears, or situations that trigger anxiety—while resisting the urge to engage in compulsive or avoidant behaviors. Over time, this process retrains the brain, reducing anxiety and breaking the cycle of obsessions and compulsions.

For families, ERP simply means helping kids (and adults) face their fears in small, manageable steps with the guidance of a trained therapist until the anxiety naturally fades. Instead of getting stuck in avoidance or rituals, clients learn new ways to respond, which builds confidence and restores a sense of freedom in daily life. Parents often see their child worry less, participate more, and feel more like themselves again.

Why ERP Works:

  • Teaches the brain that anxiety can decrease naturally without rituals or avoidance

  • Builds confidence by practicing real-life coping skills step by step

  • Reduces time spent on obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors

  • Improves daily functioning at school, work, and home

Decades of research confirm ERP’s effectiveness. In adults, ERP has shown response rates as high as 86%, even outperforming medication alone. For children and teens, ERP has been proven to deliver the best outcomes, helping young people regain focus at school, reconnect with friends, and thrive at home. At Innerspace Counseling, we bring this evidence-based approach to life in a safe, supportive, and step-by-step way so clients and families feel both guided and empowered throughout their journey
